Dave Lyme has been a friend, Coach, mentor and role model in the short time I’ve known him.To build these attributes with people these days is a tall order, it took Dave one season to build that with me.Dave’s knowledge of scrummaging and team play is some of the best in the country. I have to say his best trait is taking players or teams with raw talent and athleticism, molding them into skilled rugby minds and bodies.I take pride in knowing that I am a product of Dave Lyme.
Dave rebuilt our team around a core set of elements: fundamental competencies starting with set play dominance and a commitment to the players and the game that created a values driven culture of winning. As a result, in 2016 the Yankees went on to win the USA Rugby D3 National Championship.I can state unequivocally that Dave has the skills and commitment to help advance scrum play and give players a better understanding of the art of the scrum. I would strongly encourage you to meet with and consider Dave to help your side get to the next level.
Coming off a NorCal D2 Championship, the Seahawks felt very optimistic about the upcoming season. However, after the first 2 league matches, there was one glaring weakness... our scrum. With the goal of a repeat championship, we knew this problem needed to be fixed, so we called David Lyme for his help. After just 3 sessions with David, our scrum was absolutely dominant in our next match and helped secure a much needed victory. Thanks to David, we are confident that our scrum will be one of our strengths moving forward.
Our forward pack is full of talent and experience, but wasn’t providing the power, punch or drive it should have. Dave gave us drills to do and stressed they should be done every training. He broke down every forwards role and importance to our scrum. He made adjustments across the board including our binding positions, posture, centering for power, head position and more. Saturday came around and with our new tools and scrum cohesion we dominated our opponent.
As a referee and an opposing coach, I have seen Dave’s teams play simple, aggressive, disciplined rugby for years. His vast knowledge of the technical aspects of scrummaging and lineouts mean that his opponents must be skilled and focused at set piece time if they want to have a chance at possession. Dave takes average teams and makes them great. Dave is a scrum Midas.
After a successful training session and significnat improvement in the next game, our pack attributed it to the session they had with you just focusing on set pieces and making the adjustments in both mindset and technique you suggested was the difference. We’ll definitely be working with you again. Thanks!
